Really enjoyed reading what’s posted so far for Titan by François Vigneault.  It’s a bit unfortunate that it doesn’t quite have the standard reader friendly website design we’ve all gotten used to but it isn’t too difficult to read.  Vigneault has constructed an immediately interesting world with a tension building scenario.  Workers on Titan are genetically engineered for their environment but can no longer survive on Earth.  Their livelihood is now at stake and management in the form of João da Silva has arrived to try and accomplish a turnaround of the local factory.  Call it a company moon, I guess. Is the term DMV for the Maryland, DC, Virginia area over yet?  I always thought it should be “the DCMV” but obviously I am not plugged into the crowd for creation and popularization of alternative language-ology. Anyhow I noticed that Tom Spurgeon has not updated his great list of comics scenes in a couple of years (or at least I could only find one as recent as 2012). For conventions he’s listed Small Press Expo but needs to add Intervention, a new convention started by Onezumi and Harknell a few years ago. I strongly suspect people are going to look back on the hey-day of blogging like a strange fad that they won’t be able to fathom.  As a form it’s shattered and reconfigured in so many ways — twitter; texts; social networking; medium and other community slash platform sites just to name what popped into my head right now. Scholastic is kind enough to include me on its mailing list — given the dearth of reviewed books this year I’m not sure how long that will last.  Their holiday card features a beautiful Kazu Kibuishi drawing of Christmas with Harry Potter. Best wishes to everyone for the new year — I find it hard to believe we’re moving from 2013 to 2014 (these still sound like science fiction years to my 20th century born ears) but there it is.

I backed STRIPPED: The Comics Documentary which was funded on Kickstarter in late 2011.  Mostly because Dave Kellett, creator of Sheldon, is part of the team making it. A couple of years later and they are just about ready to launch it into the world. The updates on the project have been great, I’ve gotten to see many of the steps they’ve taken on the road to pulling everything together.  The project has shared a lot of things with backers of the project already and it looks really, really good.  You can see the trailer at the film’s website here. …
