U.S. Role in Inquiry Grows Amid Tales of Turf Battles
I was always under the impression that an interstate crime was a matter of federal jurisdiction. A murder spree through two states, which is essentially what the sniper (or snipers) is doing, is interstate. There is no reason why the FBI should not have taken charge of this investigation as soon as the first Virginia victim was murdered.
I hope the federal authorities, that is the FBI and DOJ, realize that they are shirking their responsibilities in avoiding taking charge of this investigation.

Hopefully this is all over. I am thankful the police did their jobs well. I’ll leave for another day thinking about whether an inter-jurisdictional task forces was really the most effective form of organization available here.
